Why This Fellowship Exists

I founded the Onuoha Fellowship five years ago because entrepreneurship felt impossible to navigate alone. The essence of creating something new means there's no defined playbook to follow, and traditional higher education rarely teaches you how to go from zero to one.

During my time at Harvard, I witnessed my incredible peers being funneled into conventional paths like investment banking and consulting, often without students truly considering whether these careers aligned with their unique strengths and interests. While these are excellent careers, I fundamentally believe that some students are meant to forge their own path.

Not everybody should try to start their own company, but if you’re somebody who’s unwilling to wait to see the change you want in the world, this program is for you.

Building in the AI Era

Since 2020, our approach has transformed completely. Rather than doing a classroom type approach, our fellows learn fluency in AI tools like Cursor, Replit, Lovable, and are expected to build products, test them in the world, and get feedback.

In our last cohort, two of our fellows from MIT even went off and started a company together.

It has never been more paramount to supplement your college learning with AI. Higher education institutions are notoriously slow to update their curriculum, and within just a few years, landing an entry level role without understanding how to leverage AI will be nearly impossible. This disconnect is why we're seeing students drop out of high school and college at unprecedented rates. A degree alone is no longer enough.

• Who can apply: ALL incoming college freshmen & sophomores who exhibit academic excellence, leadership capabilities, and a passion for bringing world-changing entrepreneurial ideas to life. I will value candidates that come from diverse backgrounds & experiences.

• Award: Selected students will each receive a $1,000 scholarship.

• Things that will give you an edge: Creativity and originality of independent projects worked on in the past, demonstrated resilience in a non-academic setting, exceptional academic performance, and a demonstrated intellectual ability.
